Apple delays launch of Podcast Subscription service until June

Apple's new Podcast Subscription will allow users to sign up for freemium or paid podcast shows as posted by creators.

Apple is delaying the launch of podcast subscription service until June after some podcast creators had issues with delays in their shows appearing after uploading them, according to an email by Reuters. In April announced that the service would be launching in May. Although, June is not so far.

Subscribers will also gain access to extra perks like early access to episodes or an ad-free listening experience. Podcasts Subscriptions will launch in 170 countries with initial partners including Pushkin Industries and NPR. Apple will keep 30 percent commission in the first year of a subscription and after that dropping the commission to 15 percent, similar to its App Store.

An annual premium subscription within Apple Podcasts costs Rs.1799($19.99). Creators would, of course be able to decide the pricing of their podcasts, or even offer free trail.
